Fuel Theft Suspects Arrested After Vehicle Linked to Stolen Case

Posted by Jonathan Nivison on

Summary of Events:

On 17 January, at approximately 11:30 AM, Homeland Security SA received information that a white Suzuki (Reg: CM######) wanted for fuel theft had entered the Manor Gardens area.

Units were immediately dispatched and located the vehicle parked at a popular fuel station. As Homeland Security arrived, the suspect fled the scene, leaving the vehicle abandoned with the keys inside.

CCTV footage from the garage confirmed two suspects, enabling members to obtain clear descriptions of their clothing. This information was circulated to Mayville Spar security and partnering units.

Approximately 20 minutes later, an urgent call was received reporting that the suspects had been sighted nearby. Tactical units responded and successfully surrounded both suspects, who were then escorted to Mayville SAPS.

Further investigation revealed that the suspects had attempted additional fuel theft, and the vehicle’s registration did not match the licence disc, linking it to a stolen vehicle case in KwaDabeka (CAS 126/02/26).

With the assistance of Mayville SAPS, both suspects were arrested on charges of fuel theft and possession of a suspected stolen vehicle (Section 36).
