Incident Summary:
On the evening of 05 October 2026, a Homeland Security SA Tactical Officer was conducting routine patrols in the Glenwood area when he observed a male suspect cutting cables from a light pole on Cleaver Road.
Upon noticing the response officer, the suspect fled in the direction of Che Guevara Road. The ARO confirmed that the cable had been cut and immediately pursued the suspect while calling for additional backup.
Additional Homeland Security Tactical Units responded and coordinated the pursuit, eventually cornering and apprehending the suspect on Noble Road.
Upon apprehension, the suspect was found in possession of the switches and cables removed from the light pole, as well as a knife believed to have been used to cut the cables.
Umbilo SAPS attended the scene a few minutes later, and the suspect was handed over to SAPS for further investigation and processing.
