01 / THE BEGINNING

HOW IT STARTED

Homeland Security SA was founded in the aftermath of the July 2021 unrest that shook Durban and KwaZulu-Natal.

During those unprecedented days, when communities came under attack and many residents felt vulnerable and abandoned, four friends — Andrew, Janus, Jonathan and Kyle — came together with a single mission: to protect their neighbourhood and the community they call home.

With the support of local residents and community volunteers, they patrolled the streets, responded to incidents, protected homes and businesses, and stood on the front line when their community needed them most.

Long before Homeland Security SA existed, they were already doing the work. Time and again, they were among the first to respond to incidents, often arriving before established security companies and putting themselves in harm's way to keep their community safe.

That question became Homeland Security SA.

What started as four determined individuals protecting their community has grown into a fully accredited security company serving Manor Gardens, Glenwood, Umbilo, parts of Musgrave and Sherwood, with plans to expand into Queensburgh and Westville.

MANOR GARDENS — THE PROOF

When Homeland Security SA was established, Manor Gardens was facing a serious crime problem. Home invasions, hijackings, vehicle theft, burglaries, and violent crime had become a regular concern for residents and businesses alike. The area's proximity to surrounding high-crime zones presented an ongoing challenge, and many believed the situation would only continue to deteriorate.

Homeland Security SA changed that.

Through relentless patrols, rapid response, intelligence-led operations, strategic camera deployments, and a zero-tolerance approach to criminal activity, crime in Manor Gardens decreased by over 85% after our formation.

What was once an area heavily affected by crime has become one of the safest suburbs in KwaZulu-Natal.

Manor Gardens borders a large informal settlement, creating unique security challenges that many believed would make long-term crime reduction extremely difficult. Yet despite these challenges, Homeland Security SA reduced crime by over 85%, transforming Manor Gardens from a crime-affected neighbourhood into one of the safest suburbs in KwaZulu-Natal.

As word spread about the transformation taking place in Manor Gardens, neighbouring communities, UIPs, residents' associations, and businesses began approaching Homeland Security SA to provide the same level of protection in their areas.

Our thinking was simple: if we could achieve these results in Manor Gardens, we could achieve them anywhere. It was this reputation for delivering measurable results that drove our expansion into surrounding neighbourhoods and continues to guide our growth today.

Today, the reputation of Homeland Security SA extends far beyond Durban. Senior members of SAPS have remarked that the Homeland Security SA name is recognised well beyond our operational area, with criminals aware that our communities are actively monitored, rapidly responded to, and relentlessly protected.

That reputation was not built through advertising or promises. It was earned through years of dedication, successful interventions, advanced technology, rapid response, and an unwavering commitment to protecting the communities we serve.

SMART SURVEILLANCE AT SCALE

Technology is a cornerstone of our crime-prevention strategy. We have invested heavily in smart surveillance infrastructure, including more than 250 strategically placed surveillance cameras and over 30 Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems throughout our operational areas.

Through our partnership with SNIPR, South Africa's largest private vehicle intelligence and number plate recognition database, our teams receive real-time alerts on suspicious and wanted vehicles — allowing us to identify threats quickly, respond proactively, prevent crime, and assist in successful arrests.

We have also built strong partnerships with leading security companies across KwaZulu-Natal, as well as strong working relationships with SAPS and Metro Police task teams. Through collaboration, coordinated operations, intelligence sharing, and technology, we provide a level of protection that goes far beyond traditional security services.
