Cable Theft Suspect Caught in Manhole

Summary of Events:

 

At approximately 12:30, the Homeland Security Glenwood UIP TRT was conducting routine patrols along Helen Joseph Road when members noticed an open manhole.

Upon closer inspection, a male suspect was found inside the manhole actively cutting cables, causing damage to critical infrastructure.

 

Backup was immediately requested, and the suspect was detained on scene without incident.

 

Umbilo SAPS and the Telkom Cable Theft Unit were notified and responded accordingly. Upon arrival, the suspect was handed over to SAPS for further investigation.
