SUCCESS REPORT

Subject: Cables theft suspects caught red handed

Date: 17 April 2025
Time: 03:23
Location: Glenwood Area, Durban

Summary of Events:

In the early hours of 17 April 2025, at precisely 03:23, an alert and vigilant community member raised the alarm on the BSURF Crime Alerts WhatsApp group—suspected cable theft was in progress in Clark Road. Homeland Security teams sprang into action, responding without hesitation.

Upon arrival, Homeland response spotted two suspects in a white Nissan Almera (registration B#####ZN), actively attempting to load stolen cable into the vehicle. Our teams immediately radioed Homeland Control, which swiftly escalated the matter to KZN OCC (Incident Ref: 616026). In response, Umbilo SAPS was dispatched to the scene.

As the suspects realised they had been caught in the act, they made a desperate attempt to flee—abandoning the cable and fleeing on foot. But their luck had run out. Homeland TRT and Homeland GUIP units were already in position and successfully apprehended both suspects.

During the operation, officers also discovered a pair of bolt cutters and additional cable further down the road—clear evidence of the crime in progress.

In a swift response, Umbilo SAPS arrived promptly to secure the scene, with support from Patron Shield, Pigeon Valley UIP, Mzansi Security, and other assisting forces.

The stolen cable was retrieved and safely rolled up. The suspects, along with their vehicle, were escorted to Umbilo SAPS.
