Incident Summary:
Dramatic Arrest of Armed Robbery Suspects
At approximately 13:30, our Tactical Response Team, accompanied by a Homeland Security Glenwood UIP TRT member, had just concluded the arrest of two suspects involved in a fraud case and were en route to Mayville SAPS.
As the convoy moved along King Dinizulu Road near JB Marks, our UIP TRT officer’s sharp instincts kicked in—three suspicious individuals were spotted sprinting toward a grey Hyundai i20, two of them visibly armed. The vehicle sped off toward Tollgate Bridge. Suspecting an armed robbery, our team immediately alerted KZN OCC, logging the incident under IR No. 259926, and relayed the unfolding situation to our control room.
With no time to waste, our unit initiated a high-speed pursuit.
The suspects attempted to lose their pursuers by veering off onto Mazisi Kunene Road, but under the relentless pressure from our Tactical Team, their escape unravelled—the vehicle stalled near Che Guevara Road. Without hesitation, the suspects bailed out and scattered, desperate to flee. But our team was faster.
In a display of tactical precision and swift coordination, all four suspects were chased down and apprehended on the spot.
Fortune favoured justice as the Umbilo Trio Task Team, patrolling nearby, responded instantly and provided vital backup during the arrest. A thorough search recovered two illegal firearms and multiple stolen cellphones—later confirmed to belong to a group of women who had just been robbed while having lunch outside their business premises.
Another dangerous situation neutralised. Four suspects in custody. Weapons and stolen property secured. Justice, once again, prevailed.
