Incident Summary:
On 25 August 2026, at approximately 11:15, a Homeland Security member was conducting routine patrols along Umbilo Road when he spotted a male suspect dressed in black removing a battery from a truck.
The member parked a short distance away so as not to alert the suspect. The suspect then walked directly into the Homeland Security officer, still carrying the battery.
Members immediately approached and detained the suspect. He was unable to provide an explanation for the battery or why he had removed it from the truck.
Our team made contact with a nearby business, who confirmed that the truck belonged to Sir Fruit.
KZN OCC was notified and dispatched SAPS members to the scene.
Umbilo SAPS arrived shortly afterwards, and the suspect, stolen battery, and other dangerous items in his possession were handed over to SAPS for further investigation and processing.
