Summary of Events:
On 3 June 2026, Homeland Security SA received a report via the BSURF Community Group from a resident who had been robbed of cash and a cellphone. A photograph of the suspect was obtained and circulated to all operational members.
Further intelligence gathered through the Umbilo Crime Community Group linked the same suspect to a second cellphone theft, and both SAPS case numbers were circulated to Homeland Security teams.
On 18 July 2026, while conducting routine patrols along Helen Joseph Road, a Homeland Security Glenwood UIP TRT member spotted a male matching the circulated description.
Members maintained visual contact while discreetly following the suspect until it was safe to intervene. Additional Homeland Security units were dispatched, and the suspect was successfully detained without incident.
The suspect was handed over to Umbilo SAPS for further investigation.
