ATM Scam Suspects Arrested in Glenwood

Posted by Jonathan Nivison on

Summary of Events:

On Tuesday, 26 May 2026, Homeland Security SA received a report from a Manor Gardens resident who had fallen victim to an ATM scam at a well-known shopping centre in the Glenwood area, suffering a loss of approximately R30,000.

Homeland Security members assisted the victim and, through cooperation with the shopping centre management, obtained and reviewed CCTV footage. The footage enabled members to clearly identify two suspects, as well as their getaway vehicle, a gold VW Polo sedan (Reg: #######).

Homeland Security further assisted the complainant in opening a case at Umbilo SAPS (CAS 409/05/26), and the vehicle details were circulated to operational members.

On Saturday, Homeland Security received an alert that the same suspect vehicle had entered the Glenwood UIP Precinct.

Tactical members immediately began searching for the vehicle and successfully located it parked along Helen Joseph Road.

Additional units were dispatched, and the vehicle was surrounded. Two suspects were apprehended without incident.

The suspects, together with the vehicle, were escorted to Umbilo SAPS, where they were formally arrested and charged in connection with the ATM scam investigation.
